Detlef Guertler

Senior Researcher at Swiss Think Tank Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute (GDI), looking at the digital future in general, and especially at the futures of work, economy, finance and society.

How to be modern today?

Look at very distant pasts. Some role models for the next developments will come from a time before the industrial revolution - e.g. the importance of cities (like in Renaissance city states), the emergence of billions of individual villages (global in reach, medieval in size) and a world without superpower (last seen more than 800 years ago). As the industrial age is becoming more like a dead end of human development, we should dig under its pavement to get to the beach of modernity.
