I'm a critic for the London Review of Books, the New Yorker, the New York Times, and other places; my work focuses on social media, feminism, truth and fiction, and the self, deception, and delusion. My first novel, "Fake Accounts," about a woman who discovers her boyfriend is secretly a popular online conspiracy theorist, will be published in the US and UK in 2021. I'm American and currently learning German in Berlin.

What cannot be learned?
Ability to meet deadlines; taste, but it can be mimicked or faked (mostly)

Directness; indirectness; creative punctuation. About what's happening in American and British writing (including with respect to writing "programs" and teaching writing) and on the Anglophone internet

All my bad habits, including the tendency to toil over forms; the tendency to draw comparisons too quickly
